Babylon’s partnership with Jackal offers the decentralized storage protocol additional security with its Bitcoin timestamping technology
Cosmos ecosystem’s IBC (Inter-Blockchain Communication) enables protocols across the chain to exchange data and assets, improving interoperability and collaboration for dapps. Along with it comes the need for decentralized data storage and management solutions for Cosmos-based projects seeking security over their data.
Babylon is proud to announce its integration with Jackal Protocol, a decentralized storage platform operating on Proof-of-Stake consensus mechanism. Jackal offers robust data storage solutions that enable projects to store and transfer encrypted data, operate a validator or storage provider and even build their own applications.
This partnership brings an additional layer of Bitcoin security to Jackal’s storage module and transaction process, making Jackal’s storage solution more reliable, resilient to security vulnerabilities.
Securing Jackal’s Filetree and Storage Modules
Babylon’s partnership provides additional Bitcoin security for Jackal Protocol’s filetree and storage modules. The former organizes and manages user files in a secure and user-friendly way. The latter governs the relationship between the storage provider and the user, proves data ownership and ensures that data is available, accessible and verified by validators.
Reliable data integrity and data security is crucial for Jackal users. Babylon’s Bitcoin timestamping Protocol equips Jackal Protocol’s filetree and storage modules with Bitcoin security, giving users ease of mind to securely store their data without any risk of unauthorized modification or corruption.
Securing On-Chain Transactions
A key aspect of Babylon is its Bitcoin Timestamping Protocol. It timestamps events of other blockchains onto Bitcoin, so that these events can enjoy Bitcoin timestamps in the same way as Bitcoin transactions. This effectively borrows Bitcoin's security as a timestamping server.
Babylon’s integration uses checkpointing and timestamping technology to add Jackal transactions onto the Bitcoin network, ensuring all transactions on the blockchain are secure, verified and irreversible.
The idea of timestamping events onto a parent chain like Bitcoin is called checkpointing, and the transactions that timestamp the events are called checkpoints. Babylon can be considered a checkpoint verifier and aggregator for all transactions that are submitted to be timestamped on Bitcoin. Babylon brings Bitcoin security to Jackal by allowing Jackal blocks (and the transactions therein) to be time stamped onto the Bitcoin network. The integration brings an additional layer of Bitcoin security to Jackal, providing users with even greater confidence in the safety of their transactions.
In addition to improving security of transactions, the Bitcoin timestamping protocol enables fast stake unbonding, composable trust, reduced cost of security, cross-chain security, and bootstrapping new chains by combining the long-range security of Proof-of-Work Bitcoin with the short-range security of Proof-of-Stake chains.
Babylon’s integration helps Jackal Protocol deliver a more secure, reliable, and resilient platform for its filetree, storage modules and transactions, eliminating risks of attacks and ensuring its users’ absolute ownership and control over their files.
