Making Bitcoin Productive: Highlights from Babylon Labs’ First Quarterly Founders Call

August 15, 2025

On August 13, 2025, the Babylon protocols co-founders, David Tse and Fisher Yu, hosted the first-ever Quarterly Founders Call, a milestone for direct communication with the community.

The call covered the journey of the Babylon protocols from the start of Q2 to August 13, 2025, celebrating major wins, acknowledging community concerns, unveiling technical breakthroughs, and previewing an ambitious roadmap through the end of the year.

Why This Call Matters

Bavylon Labs is a global project with over 50 team members from 24 nationalities, all working toward a single mission:

Make Bitcoin productive, and do it in a trustless way.

From the Babylon Bitcoin staking protocol, to Babylon Genesis, to the upcoming Trustless Bitcoin Vault, Babylon Labs’ vision is to place BTC at the heart of DeFi without wrapped assets or trusted custodians. This is BTCFi.

Key Wins Since April 2025

  • Babylon Genesis mainnet launched on April 10, 2025. Since the launch, the first Bitcoin Supercharged Network (BSN) has seen zero incidents in 4 months!

  • $5B in Bitcoin staked on the Babylon Bitcoin staking protocol, transitioning from pre-staking to slashable security for Babylon Genesis and, soon, other BSNs.

  • Ranked Top 10 in BTC TVL on DeFi Llama

  • Continuous inflow of BTC staking deposits

Major Technical Announcements

Trustless Bitcoin Vaults whitepaper
The groundbreaking whitepaper showcased how to remove the need for centralized BTC bridges for BTC to be used in BTCFi. Powered by BitVM3, the vaults would enable native BTC to be used as collateral in lending, stablecoins, perps, and more directly from Bitcoin’s base layer. This would help unlock BTC’s $2.4T potential for DeFi in a trustless way.

Bitcoin Multi-Staking (Testnet August, Mainnet October)
One BTC UTXO will be able to secure multiple BSNs simultaneously, all while earning multiple rewards.

EVM Integration (Testnet September, Mainnet November)
Brings established Ethereum-based DeFi apps to Babylon Genesis for fast adoption and interoperability.

Adoption Milestones

  • 10 BSNs signed (Cosmos chains + Ethereum rollups)

  • Kraken live with Babylon Bitcoin Staking; Binance and others are integrating soon.

  • Custodians, including Anchorage and BitGo onboarded.

  • Early discussions with listed companies to evolve Bitcoin treasury strategies using staking + vaults

Roadmap: Aug–Dec 2025

  • August: Multi-staking testnet, tokenomics updates via governance voting

  • September: EVM testnet launch, Bitcoin Renaissance Conference (Singapore)

  • October: Multi-staking mainnet, bonus airdrop for early stakers

  • November: EVM mainnet launch

  • December: Trustless Bitcoin Vault testnet

Community Concerns and Babylon Labs’ Response

  1. Sell pressure from BTC stakers: Addressed via upcoming tokenomics updates

  2. Unclear demand for BABY token: Driving new DeFi utility with EVM support and incentives for dual staking (BTC + BABY)

  3. Low on-chain DeFi activity – Expanding beyond the initial conservative smart contract permissions to full EVM deployment

Call to the Community

The Babylon project is looking for:

  • Developers – to build new BTC-Fi applications using Trustless Bitcoin Vaults

  • Educators – to grow awareness across global regions

  • Community Creators – yes, even memes have a place here

Closing words from the founders:
"Since day one, we’ve kept innovating. Bitcoin is a massive untapped asset, and the opportunity to make it productive in a trustless way is too big to sleep on — so we keep building."
