Fiamma Integrates with Babylon

Fiamma is integrating with the Babylon Bitcoin staking protocol!

While Babylon focuses on harnessing Bitcoin's crypto-economic security for Proof-of-Stake (PoS) systems, Fiamma is using Bitcoin's network security thanks to the BitVM2 technology.

Fiamma and BitVM2

Fiamma implements BitVM2 to enable Bitcoin to verify Zero-Knowledge Proofs (ZKPs) and develop the most compact segmented script to date. This breakthrough allows Bitcoin to verify any computation for a variety of use cases like:

  • Trustless Bitcoin bridges
  • ZK Bitcoin bridges for seamless cross-chain swaps
  • Bridgeless interoperability with Bitcoin
  • Bitcoin Layer 2 solutions secured by the Bitcoin network itself

The synergy between Fiamma and Babylon promises to strengthen the Bitcoin ecosystem. It will offer BTC holders trustless, omni-chain yield opportunities while seamlessly integrating BTC into diverse ecosystems like Ethereum ZK rollups, Cosmos SDK Chains, and more.

Why is Bitcoin's security needed?

Bitcoin is widely recognized as the most secure network with the heist market cap for a digital asset. As more projects seek to connect with Bitcoin to unlock its asset and network value, they encounter two specific challenges:

  1. Centralized trust issues in cross-chain asset transfers:
  • The problem: Moving BTC assets to other blockchains is often done through centralized bridges or custodians. This introduces a certain amount of risk, as users must trust these third parties to handle their Bitcoin securely.
  • Why it matters: Centralization creates a single point of failure, making these systems vulnerable to hacks, exploits, or even mismanagement. This undermines Bitcoin’s core principles of decentralization and trustlessness.
  1. Limitations in Bitcoin's programmability hindering state validity verification:
  • The problem: Bitcoin's scripting language, while powerful for certain transactions, has limited programmability. This makes it difficult to build other applications or verify the state of other blockchains directly on Bitcoin.
  • Why it matters: This limitation hinders the development of trustless bridges and other interoperability solutions, forcing users to trust in third-party solutions.

Fiamma's Role

Fiamma is the first project to leverage BitVM2 to unlock Bitcoin's network security value, extending Bitcoin-level security to the entire ecosystem. BitVM2 supports arbitrary computation on Bitcoin with a fraud-proof mechanism, ensuring any incorrect computation is automatically penalized. Fiamma further enhances this by leveraging BitVM2 to implement ZKP verification algorithms on BitVM2, enabling ZKP verification on Bitcoin without requiring any network upgrades.

Babylon Bitcoin staking protocol, known for its self-custodial and trustless approach, aligns perfectly with Fiamma's capabilities. By combining forces, we can support even more complex scenarios, opening up new possibilities for:

  • Expanded roles and rewards for Babylon's Finality Providers – BitVM2 enables FPs to take on more responsibilities (like ZKP verification), leading to increased rewards.
  • More flexible and secure asset transfers on Bitcoin – Fiamma's trustless bridges and swaps allow seamless movement of assets between Bitcoin and other chains, enhancing liquidity and interoperability.
