Babylon Labs and Ledger today announced a partnership to bring native Ledger signer support to Babylon Trustless Bitcoin Vaults (BTCVaults), marking a significant step toward making native Bitcoin usable as collateral through a secure and intuitive user experience. Through the partnership, Ledger will act as the secure signing layer for BTCVault interactions, enabling users to authorize vault transactions directly from their Ledger device with Clear Signing.ย
Ledgerโs scale makes it a natural partner for bringing BTCVaults to a wider audience. Ledger has sold more than 8 million signers globally, making it one of the most widely used platforms for Bitcoin self-custody. Integrating Clear Signing for BTCVaults within this ecosystem creates a clear path for BTCVaults to reach users through hardware they already trust.
David Tse, Co-Founder of Babylon, commented: โBitcoin is the largest crypto asset, yet most of it cannot be used in digital finance without giving up custody or relying on intermediaries. Trustless Bitcoin Vaults remove that trade-off. Bitcoin stays on Bitcoin, governed by predefined conditions that are verified rather than trusted. Integrating Clear Signing with Ledger, together with Ledger Wallet connectivity, makes that model practical for millions of self-custody users.โ
Ledgerโs Clear Signing is a central focus of the partnership at its onset. Instead of approving opaque transactions, users will be able to clearly see and understand what they are authorizing directly on their Ledger device. This added transparency is particularly important for bitcoin-based workflows, where clarity and confidence are essential for wider adoption.
โIf not self-custody, why crypto?,โ said Charles Guillemet, CTO at Ledger. โAnd true self-custody relies on uncompromising security. Babylon recognized this and reached out to work with us on this integration. Now Babylon BTCVaults users can use the worldโs only secure signers, featuring a secure screen, in their security model, a considerable boon for its ecosystem.โ
Alongside BTCVaults, the partnership also expands support across the Ledger ecosystem, including asset management and connectivity through the Ledger Wallet app, with additional support planned for Babylon BTC staking. Babylonโ native asset BABY, will be supported as part of the broader integration, leveraging Ledgerโs secure infrastructure to provide a safe entry point into Babylonโs growing suite of Bitcoin-native products.
